Beta test plan generator
Fill in a few details about your product and get a complete beta test plan in Markdown: scope, objectives, test scenarios for each key flow, devices, a week-by-week schedule, entry and exit criteria, feedback channels and bug severity definitions.
How to use the generated beta test plan
The generator gives you a solid first draft, not a finished document. Spend ten minutes editing it with your team before the beta starts:
- Rewrite the objectives as questions. "Can a new user create their first project without help?" is easier to answer at the end of a beta test than "validate onboarding".
- Trim the scenarios. The generator lists the scenarios most teams need for each flow. Delete the ones that don't apply and add anything specific to your product.
- Name owners. Every section works better with a person attached: who triages bugs, who answers testers, who decides when the beta is done.
- Agree on exit criteria before you start. It is much easier to agree on "no open critical bugs and 80% task completion" before the results come in than after.
- Share it with testers in a shorter form. Testers don't need your exit criteria. Give them the scope, the scenarios to try, how to report bugs and the schedule.
What a good beta test plan contains
A beta test plan answers five questions: what you are testing, why, with whom, for how long, and how you'll know you're done.
- Scope: the flows and platforms in the beta, and just as important, what is out of scope so testers don't spend time on unfinished areas.
- Objectives: two to five measurable goals. Typical ones: find blocking bugs in core flows, measure task completion, check stability on real devices, and collect feedback on pricing or onboarding.
- Test scenarios: concrete tasks per flow. Include the happy path, wrong input, interruptions (refresh, back button, lost connection) and first-time versus returning use.
- Devices and environments: the browsers, operating systems and screen sizes that match your real audience. Your analytics are the best source.
- Schedule: a short preparation week, then rounds of testing with time to fix bugs between them, and a final regression pass.
- Entry and exit criteria: what must be true to start (build stable, test accounts ready) and to finish (no open critical bugs, goals answered).
- Feedback channels and severity levels: one place for bug reports, one for general feedback, and a shared scale so "critical" means the same thing to everyone.
Best practices for running the beta test
- Keep the first round small. Five to fifteen testers per round find most of the obvious problems. Fix them, then widen the group.
- Give testers tasks, not just access. "Explore the app" produces vague feedback. "Create a project, invite a teammate and export a report" produces bug reports you can act on.
- Make reporting effortless. A short bug report template with steps, expected and actual result, and a screenshot field doubles the useful reports you get.
- Reply to every report within a day. Testers who feel heard keep testing. A simple "thanks, fixed in the next build" goes a long way.
- Re-test fixes. Each round should start by checking that last round's critical and high bugs are actually fixed.
- Close the loop. Send a short summary at the end: what you fixed, what's next, and a thank-you or the promised reward.
Where an AI beta tester fits in the plan
Human beta testers are best at telling you what they think: whether the product makes sense, what confused them, whether they would pay. They are less consistent at repetitive work like running the same signup flow on five devices after every release.
Many teams split the plan: an AI beta tester runs the scripted scenarios (signup, login, checkout, settings, responsive layouts, broken links) on every build and files bugs with steps, screenshots and recordings, while human testers focus on opinions and real-world use. Your test plan's scenario list doubles as the task list for the AI tester.
Let an AI beta tester do it for you
An AI beta tester opens your website, web app, Android or iOS app or browser extension in a real browser or on a phone, signs up, clicks through every flow like a real user, and files bugs with steps, severity, annotated screenshots and recordings, then sends a report with a quality score.
Beta test plan generator: FAQ
What is a beta test plan?
A beta test plan is a short document that defines what a beta test covers, its goals, the testers and devices, the schedule, how feedback is collected, and the criteria for starting and finishing the test.
How long should a beta test last?
Most beta tests run two to six weeks. Short products or single features can be tested in a week; complex apps with several releases during the beta often need six to eight weeks. Plan time between rounds to fix bugs.
How many beta testers do I need?
For finding usability problems and bugs in core flows, small rounds of 5 to 15 testers work well. For stability across devices or load, you need more. The plan generator splits your tester count across the platforms you pick.
What is the difference between a test plan and test cases?
The test plan describes the whole beta test: scope, goals, people, schedule and rules. Test cases are the detailed, step-by-step checks for individual features. Use the test case generator to create those.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The plan is generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
Can I use the plan for a closed beta and an open beta?
Yes. For a closed beta, keep the tester count small and the scenarios focused. For an open beta, add broader goals like stability and feedback volume, and plan more time for triage.
